We all need some well deserved time in nature from time to time, and I sure needed this. I got a little caught up in work and thoughts of what I would like to do with my platform lately. Therefor the invitation send to me to try-out an eco lodge in the Biesbosch area couldn’t have come at a better time. The non-profit hostel, Stayokay Dordrecht, invited me to check out one of their well-located Wikkelhouses. These lodges are made out of recycled cardboard! How cool is that, perfect for an eco-friendly getaway.
Eco-friendly getaway:
The Wikkelhouse has everything you need. In the front or back you will find the livingroom with fully equipped kitchen. A bedroom with great beds can be found on the opposite side. A small shower and toilet area are located right in-between. This eco-friendly lodge is made of recycled materials and is 3x more eco friendly than regular housing. Wifi and TV? They don’t know what that is. It’s just you and your company and quality time in nature. It is warm, cozy and everything you ask for, when your looking for a tranquil getaway.
Stayokay has sustainability at it’s core which can be found throughout the organisation. Even the clothing the employees wear are sustainable! (Mud Jeans!)
What to do?
There is enough to do in this beautiful area, believe me you will not get bored. Stayokay Dordrecht is located in The Biesbosch National Park, which is a lovely park in the South of Holland. A large part of the park is covered by water with outstanding flora and fauna. There are a lot of activities that can be done, walk and bike rides are fun but the best way to see the park is from the water. That’s why we didn’t do it.. haha. I know the area well and I have been there often when I was a little kid. I grew up close-by and that’s why we decided to see another part of town this time around. But I can assure you, a boat trip is definitely worth it. What we did instead? We went to Dordrecht and had a lovely vegan lunch at Villa Augustus followed by a nice long walk in Het Wantijpark. Also one of my favourite thrift stores is located right in between so we had to pay Opnieuw en Co a visit too!
