Who pays the price for our clothing?
The Tue Cost
Let’s start with thé must-see fashion documentaries. Every time I see this documentary I’m shocked and confronted with the way we (consumers) are destroying the world. Wait, we are destroying the world? Yes, we are!
Let’s face it, we do have power! I mean as big fashion chains are producing whatever we ask for, we can decide what happens. So it is time we start making use of this. This documentary makes sure you get a clear idea of what actually happens within the fashion industry. I must say this docu alone is already enough inspiration to change the way you consume.
So go watch The True Cost (2015) now. You can find the documentary on Netflix or iTunes, and it only takes you 1,5 hour, so no excuses! The Girl who is working on your garments 10 to 12 hours a day deserves some of your time, don’t you think?
Unravel
Want to know what happens to the items that you send to third world countries? Unravel is a 15 minute long documentary that shows what happens to your cast-offs.
The Machinist
If you would like to see more on Bangladeshi garment factories, you can watch the documentary The Machinist on YouTube. It will tell you personal stories of three female Bangladeshi garment workers. But babe, it is not mandatory.
After watching [a few] of the above fashion documentaries, I think you’ll have a pretty clear view of the industry. If you want to find out a bit more, than you can check out some great reads I’ve listed, and inspiring talks from power women.
